Damn right I called it years ago. The Ultimate line is getting convoluted. It won't be long until they need to reboot the Ultimate line or where they introduce the "Extreme" line-up of comics for people that are not interested in bogged-down continuity.

"“This is one of the biggest stories in Marvel history,” said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “Peter Parker and Miles Morales are two of our most popular characters and fans have been clamoring for them to meet"

1) Aw man, it's one of the biggest stories in Marvel history. Must. Pre-order.
2) Miles Morales one of their most popular characters? I don't know about that, especially since he's only existed since August 2011. Alonso's group of "most popular Marvel characters" must be a pretty big group to include him.
3) Oh yeah, that's right, we were all clamoring for Parker and Morales to meet...

Marvel, DC, you both suck so hard.

"Joe Quesada was asked if the Ultimate Universe and the Main Marvel Universe would ever cross over and he replied no. Quesada said he'd rather close down one universe than have them cross over because it meant they were officially out of ideas."
-- CBR reporting on the Comic-Con International: San Diego, July 2005.

The upcoming rant will perhaps lack credibility because I am for the most part a Spider-Man outsider when it comes to the comics, but I'm going to continue nonetheless.

I don't like Miles Morales, and why should I? Why should I give a fuck about a character created solely to fulfil modern self damning political correctness?

I know a lot of Batman outsiders had problems with Grayson becoming Batman, so perhaps as a Spider-Man outsider nobody will care about my opinion. But there is a very important difference that I have addressed many a time before... The lack of earning the role.

Dick Grayson earned the right to be Batman. Stephanie Brown earned the right to be Batgirl. Cassandra Cain did not earn the right to be Batgirl. My problem is when an iconic role is given to a newly created character without justification. Characters need to earn the right to take on the icon, or there is no reason for audiences care about them.

Morales was created as some quasi plea that comics aren't racist. He was not created to be a good character, he was created to be a 'positive statistic' to appease a tiny minority of readers who claim racism and/or sexism on every panel of every comic released.

So that's my issue. Give the icon to an established character who has earned the role, and you have my attention, like Stephanie Brown or Dick Grayson. Give the icon to someone who hasn't earned it and you get a failure like Cassandra Cain. I couldn't give a flying fuck about the race of your character, just give me a good one. When your character's race is the most important part of your publicity, it is screaming the fact that he is a publicity stunt, and nothing more.

For the record I didn't like Jean-Paul Valley as Batman either. But at least you were supposed to dislike him.

Speaking of Jean-Paul Valley, leading me onto his co-creator: I love that Quesada quote at the end there cheesy

Spot on, Nick. Miles Morales seems to be shoehorned in as a deterrent to racist remarks aimed at Marvel. "It's not our fault you don't buy comics that people with colour star in! We try and publish diversity without putting any effort into building the character." Of course we don't buy those comics. Fucktards.
