An innocent was not killed by JPV, if I remember correctly (and this may not be the case since it's been several years since I read KQ), he chose not to save someone from certain death and the person was a serial killer.

Counts as a killer move in my book, regardless of the person that died.
Which is why I disliked the ending of Batman Begins so much.

Actually, I think midLfinger was correct about that. Though JPV didn't directly kill anyone, the killer that he refused to save had a victim hidden somewhere in a death trap device that was on a timer, and by not saving the killer and getting him to confess where the victim was hidden, the victim was killed by the device. So an innocent man did die because of JPV's negligence. However, I don't think that means he ever stopped being the "real" Batman until Bruce Wayne returned.

As for this Hugo Strange thing, I don't think he should count as a real Batman. Maybe he has a penchant for putting on a batsuit, but that doesn't mean he was ever really Batman.

I will not believe you do not see the difference between Dick Grayson as Batman and Hugo Strange as Batman. It's all about the intentions of the person behind the mask -- the original point of discussion.

You overcomplicate this tremendously.

Actually, I merely brought pre-existing overcomplications to the forefront. The topic is rearranging characters and I believe that what I've done is thouroughly illustrate why listing characters by public identity rather than secret identity is a really bad idea.

If you look up the set index of Batman on wikipedia it has four Batmen listed: Bruce Wayne, Jean-Paul Valley, Dick Grayson and Hugo Strange. I'm not suggesting that wikipedia is the most accurate place to find out who counts as a Batman but clearly someone added him and clearly whoever's in charge of checking the accuracy of edits made to the site saw no problem with the addition of Strange.

So when I say Strange is Batman II (actually III if his pre-crisis stories don't count) there are at least two people who agree (and who knows how many more).

That's the problem with listing Batman rather than Bruce Wayne. Whose to say who does and doesn't count as Batman. Sure this is Snipe's site and, as such, he has final say but the truth is that real names followed by codenames with roman numerals (if only because it's shorter and easier than dates or time periods in the costume) is the ONLY way to go.

This.

I just wanted to re-post that because of the first sentence.

Wikipedia is informative for an individual but you cannot use it as leverage in an argument. People that contribute decide what goes which is an incredibly small proportion of people that read about Batman Plus, as we see in this thread, it is subjective in any case. There is no truth.
