Agreed. A month with no action would be still difficult to place. Although it would be a lot easier than six months. I still think it could fit somewhere. Did it say for sure that it took place in the first year? Because it might be able to be placed in between Long Halloween and Dark Victory. I think TLH ends in Bruce's second October as Batman, and Dark Victory starts in the summer, so we're looking at a minimum of 8 months in between, plenty of time for Year Two and Night Cries to take place, as well as Venom. Although, this only works IF it mentions nowhere in Venom that it takes place in Year One.

It's been way too long since I've read it. I think it just "felt" like a y1 era setting. TLH and DV are difficult for me, too. I have trouble pushing them back any since it's generally referenced that Dick became Robin during Batman's third year. Being that Y1, TLH, and DV all take place over the course of (roughly) one year, there has to be quite a bit of overlapping with them and the other stuff going on. I have no problem with stuff like y2 and Night Cries overlapping with them, just Venom cannot due to that missing month (and all of these referencing very specific dates).
That leads to another problem. If Venom takes place after Robin begins, it then has to be moved back to (probably) after the Titans form, giving Robin room to not be involved. Not saying Robin was involved in every case, but one that spanned that long of a time period, you'd think he'd at least be mentioned.

Also, if it is the case that Venom is most definitely a Year One story, we know that Venom takes place over a four-month period minimum, and I believe there is a four-month gap somewhere in Journey Into Knight (though there may be a continuity error later in that storyline anyway, since Bruce is out of action for a month or something when Joker takes over Arkham with Bruce as a patient). Just another thought. I think Venom could potentially fit there. If I'm wrong, though, let me know.

And totally agreed on the story. Fantastic. Made my eyes roll a bit when Batman fought the shark, but then again, he IS Batman. I kinda gotta wonder if the writer (I think it was Denny O'Neil) made that scene an homage to the 1960s movie.

I love O'Neil. He can do no wrong cheesy

Anyone want to throw their two cents into the ring for what should be considered the "major events" that would show up in everyone's continuity page?

Major character deaths
Team forming
Costume / ID change (Robin - Nightwing / Tim Drake - Robin)
Crisis
Etc.

How about first time team-ups between heroes that aren't JLA stories? Like the first time GL and Flash team up, or Green Arrow and Black Canary?

Venom definitely has to take place before The Long Halloween because Harvey Dent is still district attorney.

Ah HA! Thanks for that. I knew there was something that placed it early.

Awesome catch. Well then, the only place I could see Venom taking place then is in the four-month gap in Journey Into Knight. If there is some sort of reason it couldn't take place there, then I'm out of ideas.
