Hey, folks! smiley How's everyone been?

Sorry I haven't dropped in on you all for a while as I'm currently doing my English degree up at Strathclyde University in Scotland, which by the way is going very well.

So how are you all and what have I missed?

Emma! I'm fine. Still failing Spanish, but I'm fine pretty much. Also, nothing really new...a few forums have been merged, and some things have gone on at the Hype I'm sure, but we're all still here. Oh yeah, and the BOO YAH! has returned. wink

I'm really down, moody and pissed. With reason.

On the brightside, check this. I love the last bit!

I've got myself two more sketches from Derek Fridolfs: Elijah Snow (Planetary) and the Lord of Dreams (Sandman).

Not too much happening here. I got Employee of the Month yet again and I'm finding myself more and more exhausted (even with 8 hours sleep or more, I'm still tired). Plus I've been really thirsty lately (some days, I've drank a half gallon of milk). I'm planning on going to a masseuse to relieve some tension before Black Friday next week.

My local comic book store is having its bi-annual sale this Saturday where they have a tent outside with 50% off TPBs and 3 comics for $1.00, 50% off backissues inside the store, and 10% off everything else (they also sell action figures for cheap too). It was suppose to happen the weekend before Halloween, but since Hurricane Wilma came they changed it to this weekend. And as a bonus, it's now 5 comics for $1.00.

When I order DVD's online it's from two sites: Amazon.com and DeepDiscountDvd.com. This week, Deep Discount DVD has a special sale where you can take an additional 20% off your entire purchase (except for preorders). Their prices are already cheap so check it out. You have to use the coupon code: DVDTALK to subtract 20 percent.

Although Rorshach would be badass, too.
I've got Derek Fridolfs offer again to trade books for sketches! I've now got 3 upcoming sketches: Maxx (from Sam Kieth's Maxx), DKR Batman and Rorschach.
'ell Yeah!

Oh, and my job is to promote the study of Psychology from the University of Maastricht and it pays 8,- per hour, which makes a bit less than $9,- per hour.

I applied, but the comic market is undercrowded here so the guy who owned the shop could do it on his own.
It'd be cool though, methinks.

The comic book market is arguably dead everywhere -- I don't know if you'd think the US was all that much bigger if you encountered it on a store to store basis (I mean that, of course, on the basis of relative logistical size only; not sum total but of a microcosm). The excess of the 90s killed much of it off.

You can find a few big stores and some smaller ones in most areas, but it used to be that any supermarket or newstand would have many comics -- no longer the case, sadly. Not a mass market item, it's become more of a niche hobby than ever before. The number comic book or trading card shops overall is much smaller now as well.

The way the big two companies are being run is arguably the reason for the massive loss of cultural penetration as an art form at the moment. They've done decently with translating big properties to other mediums, but the base medium is becoming more and more of an afterthought.

As far as the first paragraph, I could be wrong -- there's probably pretty good chance that this is the biggest market even when the logistics of landmass are broken down to create parity with any other country (I guess that would be a state by state call then, whereas taken as a whole the outcome is in no doubt whatsoever), and I suppose what I meant is that the difference is likely not nearly as striking as it was only a few years ago (but still striking..?) -- I have no idea how big or small the comic book industry is overseas in whatever given country, but it certainly has shrunk vastly over here in the last 10-12 years.

Point? This industry remains in trouble generally. I don't think it can afford to shrink much more.
