xx What albums can you currently not get enough of?
« Thread started on: Jun 8th, 2005, 11:36am »

Alright so Dream Theater just released a new album a couple weeks ago, and its the shit, and it made me go back through the rest of my Dream Theater stuff and I also found John Petrucci's (their guitarist) solo album which is also godly.

So in this order are the albums that are staying on my PL for the time being:
1. Octavarium - Dream Theater
2. Suspended Animation - John Petrucci
3. 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Dream Theater
4. Metropolis Part Two: Scenes from a Memory - Dream Theater
5. Live at Budokan - Dream Theater

If anyone here doesn't know Dream Theater, you seriously need to DL some cheesy cheesy

I do it a lot, yeah

I'm digging the new NIN, "With_Teeth." It's odd for their albums - it seems to be geared more toward songs than the album itself. Most of their previous stuff is somewhat seemless. I guess this could be described as a collection of songs instead...
I'm very disappointed in the new Audioslave, "Out of Exile." Their first one was great, and I love all things Soundgarden. This one, however is uninspired. Everything sounds the same. Nothing stands out. Nothing makes me want to listen to it again.

Wow, I'd heard good things about the new Audioslave. Think I should sample before I buy then? Also, Robert Plant's new CD is pretty good, especially Shine It All Around.

Haven't heard it yet. I haven't really dug most of his solo stuff. I've got most of the albums, but it's generally one or two tracks I like.
I'm a huge Page fan, and I guess I only like Plant by association.

If you had AIM I'd send you a couple of the songs to try out, but alas you do not...

Snipe, have you ever listened to Dream Theater? I think you'd like them if you haven't.

No, but quite a few people have mentioned that. If our local shop have any used, I may pick one up. Which should I keep my eyes open for?

Pretty much any of their albums are good. My favorites in order are:
1. Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory
2. 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence
3. Images and Words
4. Train of Thought
5. Octavarium
for studio albums
1. Live at Budokan
2. Once In A Livetime
3. Live Scenes From New York
for live albums
You might want to try to find Change of Seasons, the big Zeppelin fan that you are; they do a Zeppelin Medley on that album.

One of my friends whos a huge White Stripes fan is really dissappointed with their new album. He says Jack is playing to much piano.... I gave him the new Dream Theater (who he'd never heard of, big surprize sad) the same day he bought the new WS and he says its hands down better cheesy

the new album is a slight departure from their older stuff. and there is a lot more piano than guitar...its more musical than rock your face off. but the change isnt necessarily surprising. he plays the piano like he plays guitar and its all still got white stripes written all over it. being a long time die hard fan, its not my favorite album of theirs, but i fucking love it. most other fans seem to like it, but a few fans are pissed about it. not surprising....people are like that with change.

I understand. I've made a couple of lurker visits to Dream Theaters official forums and it seems to be very extreme on both sides. There are fans pissed at the lack of long solos (which really only existed on the album prior to this one anyway undecided) and others who love the album and the musical direction that its going in. Considering the band, I expected alot more of type b than a, because Dream Theater has made it a point to constantly change from album to album. To quote Mike Portney (their Drummer and helluva songwriter) "If you want the same sound over and over, album to album, you should stick with AC/DC."
He also wrote a song on their new album about not being able to please all the fans:
Never Enough

Cut myself open wide
Reach inside
Help yourself
To all I have to give
And then you help yourself again
And then complain that
You didn't like the way
I put the knife in wrong
You didn't like the the way
My blood spilled on your brand new floor

What would you say
If I walked away
Would you appreciate
But then it'd be too late
Because I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways
Everything is never enough

Sacrifice my life
Neglect my kids and wife
All for you to be happy
All those sleepless nights
And countless fights to give you more
And then you say how dare that
I didn't write you back
I must be too good for you
I only care about myself

What would you say
If I walked away
Would you appriciate
But then it'd be too late
Because I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways
Everything is never enough

What would you say
If I walked away
Would you appriciate
But then it'd be too late
Because I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways
Everything is never enough

As a matter of fact, I've been listening to Nine Inch Nails as well: Halo Fourteen. I've not listened to it for a long time and have started again. I really love the album. I really want to own more of NIN - I only have the All That Could Have Been DeLuxe CD and that's it. Any recommendations, lord snipe?

I've also been listnening to Leftfield a lot, but I believe only Ars Magnus liked them besides me.

Not really - I'm biased. I'd say go out and buy it all. theFragile is probably my favorite. Very melodic.
