He won by DQ. But he might as well have won via pinfall/submission. He beat up everybody anyway.

Source - Wrestling Observer

It was first reported by the Wrestling Observer in late August that Kurt Angle was looking to do Mixed Martial Arts. He was talking with some big time companies like the UFC, Pride and even K1. The talks died down a bit because the UFC withdrew from involvement as soon as they learned Angle was going to sign with TNA. However, we are now reporting that Dana White, President of the UFC, is looking to sign Kurt Angle to a 1-3 fight contract and put him in a fight with Chuck Liddell for the Light Heavyweight Championship somewhere around UFC 70. This would mean Kurt Angle would have to take some time off of TNA.

The change of heart on White's part seem to be because Liddell is running out of opponents, after soundly defeating the cocky Tito Ortiz again. The reason White is looking at Angle is because Angle has stated in several interviews that he can beat Chuck Liddell. He has also stated he'd have no problem taking the fight to the ground, saying Liddell's take down defense isn't good enough to stop an Olympic Gold Medalist. White is seriously looking at Angle because the thought of a Liddell/Angle fight might bring the UFC its highest PPV buyrate ever. With Pride and the WWE talking, Dana White thought this would be a perfect way to hold down any hype created by a WWE/Pride tag-team. We will keep you posted as the story unfolds

I hope this is not true. It's a really, really, really bad idea. Chuck would fuck him up big time

Lidell's gonna get fucked up by Crocop.

There wont be anything left for Angle to take on.

BTW, Angle's almost 40 and a stiff wind could kill him. I suggest he stay away from the ocatgon.

Liddell's one year and eight days younger than Angle and Angle has 50 lbs. of lean mass on him. The last guy Liddell faced who was close to Angle's weight was Jeff Monson (10 lbs. lighter than Angle) at UFC 29 back in 2000. Angle is untested as a real fighter since he hasn't done much more than wrestling and the Olympics. Two of the three losses Liddell has have come against wrestling opponents and the third was against a submission style opponent.

Personally, I think it has a great potential to go either way but I was just defending Angle because, like I said, he's untested in UFC and, really, there's no reason to think he can't win other than his being a pro wrestler and not an Ultimate Fighter.

Summerslam 2006

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero.
Dissapointing. Their prior grudge matches where ****+, that time they where sticking to their own styles. This time they brawled. Chavo’s decent when it comes to it, but Rey’s punches are weak. It would’ve been fine, however they decided to add Vickie Guerrero to the mix and remind us of the angle. Also 11 minutes just isn’t enough time to produce something of PPV quality.

**1/2

ECW Title: Big Show vs. Sabu.
Insane match. Sabu really proved himself as a commodity here. As a solid guy to have around and not put much stock into. Big Show also put in a tremendous effort and showed us why this was his best world title reign yet. Both men suprisingly gelled very well. A few botches aside. I can’t in good concience give this a very high score however as this was a world title match that lasted 8 minutes. So there’s no way they could’ve gone all out in that time. 7 more minutes could’ve made a huge difference.

**3/4

Randy Orton vs. Hulk Hogan.
The build for this match was terrible. Considering how easy it was. It’s the Legend Killer going up against Hulk fucking Hogan the storyline wrote itself. But they had to bring in Hogan’s family and whatnot. The match in itself was a standard Hogan match with Orton’s best effort to make it good. He tried and maybe just barely succeded. Unlike Rey/Chavo this time 11 minutes was too much. Hogan kept stopping for too long and posing. I’ll give Randy credit, he put the effort in.

**1/4

Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair. I Quit match.
There’s a problem with having two similar gimmicked matches on the same card. Both matches create limits for each other. Otherwise it would just be repetitive. Thankfully it’s Foley and Flair we’re talking about. Unfortunately they where also screwed for time as they didn’t even get 15 minutes. All the stuff with Melina didn’t help matters either, as she really took away form the match. The way the match was building up I thought it would end when someone died. She wrecked in that regard. Still can’t hate a match with Ric Flair turning bat shit insane. Match of the night.

***3/4

World Title. King Bookah vs. Batista.
Lame match. Batista was bad here. Bookah’s usually as good as his opponent which is why his better matches are against the likes of Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio and Chris Benoit. Batista tried but he was off by a mile. He’s lost more than a step during his injury time. The end was complete crap too. They where lucky to even get the rating I gave them.

**1/4

DX vs. McMahons.
I actually had high hopes for this match. I don’t know why. It was horribly booked. The start with all the heels running out was fun, but it would’ve been much better if the faces who where fueding with the heels came out to help DX (Lashely and Sabu) only to be overwhelmed and then have Kane come out and make the save. Alas it was DX getting squashed for 20 minutes and then hulking up and overcoming the odds again. Barely average match.

**

WWE Title: Edge vs. John Cena.
All their prior matches have been disapointing at this point. This one was a genuine surprise. It was funfor the most part. Overall it wasn’t a classic. It was fairly slow in pace, although in later matches this hasn’t been a problem. But it was solid PPV quality match. Things really picked up towards the end with all the nearfalls.

No Mercy 2006

Matt Hardy vs. Gregory Helms.
It’s about time these two where given something to go with. They managed a fairly good match with their previous PPV match and that was without any build up. This time around they’ve had four months build up. This was a big improvement too as it shows they’ve been holding back for the payoff. This was most certainly the payoff. As they went back and forth for 15 minutes non stop. Unfortunately they’ve been wrestling each other week in and week out so some of the stuff was abit too predictable. However the ultra hot ending sequence with the out of nowhere ending makes up for the predictability.

***1/2

WWE Tag Team Titles: Brian Kendrick and Paul London vs. Teachers Pets.
Another example of the awesomeness that is London and Kendrick. They’ve been having tremendous PPV showings and this one is no exception. Luckily the face in peril segments wheren’t drawn out like in other matches and it allowed for LondRick to showcase there stuff. James and Stevens where no slouches as they did some solid stuff. But they’re just too bland. But all in all a really good match.

***

MVP vs. random jobber.
MVP’s a joke.

DUD

Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy.
We got robbed. There’s no other way to put this. We got robbed. What a great competitive 20 minute match we where given. Hell, we even got to see the Piledriver again! But why in the blue fuck did they book that illogical bullshit ending? It made no sense whatsoever. There was absolutely no reason to book that crap! Fuck that shit. Any other ending and this would’ve been a short end MOTYC.

**1/2

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero.
Like I said with their past match. They shouldn’t be brawling. That’s why their matches have been completely underwhelming. Especially this one. I hate it when they brawl in the crowds. It completely restricts what they’re able to do. Add a shoddy finish and you’re left with this match.

**1/4

William Regal vs. Chris Benoit.
For a thrown together match this was awesome. Like the Hardy/Helms match this proved that if two good workers are left to do what they want you get a great result and we certainly got a great result. The returns of the apron DDT and the Dragon Suplex definatley welcome! Tremendous 10 minute match that showcases what these guy are made of. Given another 10 minutes they could’ve had the match of the year.

***1/2

World Title: King Bookah vs. Lashely vs. Batista vs. Finlay.
Another good example of sending the boys out there to beat the shit out of each other. For a 16 minute match this was alittle slow but it was great fun. Fnlay didn’t look out of place at all and even looked like he was about to become champion on various occasions. The heel side of the match held up strong, but the face side was lacking. Lashely is still green and has no character and Batista has been pretty sloppy since his return. He did step up for this match, however. The ending sequence could’ve been hotter but it made Bookah look smart so it worked just as well.

That won't happen until next year, if ever. Cro Cop has been brought in to take out Slyvia so we don't have to watch his boring title defences anymore

I would assume Chuck will fight Quinton Jackson at the end of the year.

As for Angle fighting Chuck, 6 years ago maybe. I just can't see him lasting more than a round now though.

The problem with this, assuming Kurt doesn't stand a chance, is that everyone is still willing to pay shit loads of money to see Liddell knock Angle out or make him submit in the first 30 seconds of the fight.

Kurt definitely shouldn't do it if he knows he doesn't stand a chance. He's got everything to lose and nothing to gain if he loses to Liddell. However, if Angle beats him, he's got tons more cred and could become a much larger star in pro wrestling than he is today. If he thinks he can beat him (and I mean logically, not his bullshit "I wanna be the best" crap) then he should give it a shot.

I'm watching TNA but sometimes it's painful to watch because of a certain group that hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread. Thank you guys for mentioning the good things happening in TNA but I have one question: Why is Abyss champion?

... pssssh... yeah...

I dunno...

...but I do know it's wrong... Christian will (hopefully) kick his ass one-on-one. A better question, actually, is, "why was he allowed to beat Sting and then Sting and Christian after tapping out to Angle a week before becoming champ?"
