That's a bit harsh, dude. The hoping he dies part, I mean. The "Fuck Cena" is cool. Last year he beat Triple H and this year he beat Shawn Michaels... hell, they should bring back Bret Hart next year so Cena can beat him too. It's not like he doesn't deserve it. I mean he does all these personal appearances and is an all around great guy. So what if he can't wrestle very well... y'know?... So what if Triple H and Michaels carried the matches and his matches against JBL and the Big Show make it brutally obvious... y'know?... He... he makes lots of personal appearances. Yeah, I know he doesn't have a wife or kids to go home to when he's not on the road and can, therefore, afford to spend six days on the road whereas the other guys have to go see their families but that doesn't matter. Right? I mean, more personal appearances are what the business is about. It's all about the revenue outside the ring. I'm pretty sure that if Mike Tyson was making personal appearances he'd still be champion now. Or what about Kobe? If he made more appearances he'd have a ring... right?

Plus, Michaels is old, too. I mean, so are Undertaker and Batista but Michaels is also only 6' 1". So there's no way to market him as a champion. What is Vince supposed to rely on? His in ring ability? None of the fans care about that. The fans want height, muscles and personal appearances. The fans want to see wrestlers in movies like "The Marine," now available on DVD. The fans want to see wrestlers rap and want to buy the albums because that is what wrestling is about. Little kids buy John Cena's shirts. That is what wrestling is all about. He is more marketable and he should be champion. If Michaels had the belt, there is no cross promotion. Nobody sees him in movies or in record stores. John Cena sells (except for kayfabe injuries like his leg at WrestleMania) and selling... is what wrestling is all about.

P.S.: Thank you Undertaker for bringing a little sanity to my Friday Nights.

It's been proven that Rey Mysterio's Main Event rund was more successfull than Cena's. Rey sold tons of merchandise and kept both children and adults behind him. What does it say when a PPV main event featuring JBL draws more than triple threat match featuring the alleged two biggest stars in the company (HHH and Cena)?

You didn't say HBK isn't a marketable champion. Tell me you didn't just say that! They guy got cheered cutting a heelish promo on Cena/Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan! If Cena sells, why was The Marine a flop?

BTW haven't done one of these in awhile:

Wrestlemania I

Tito Santana vs. The Executioner.
Not much to say. There was effort but what can possibly be accomplished in 4 minutes? Pretty much the equivalent of todays Heat matches. The ropes where unssually loose. Gotta be some kind of OH&S hazard.

*1/2

SD Jones vs. King Kong Bundy.
Just like the Warrior/Honky Tonk and Benoit/Jordan Summerslam classics. Unfortunatley had no where near the coolness factor of Benoit or Warrior pwning jobbers.

DUD

Ricky Steamboat vs. Matt Borne.
Ricky Steamboat proves he's an all time great. He had a shorter match than the opener, yet he crammed so much into it. Borne wsn't bad either I would've liked to see this get 10 minutes.

**1/4

Dave Sammartino v. Brutus Beefcake.
A long and very, very boring match, only to set up the clusterfuck brawl at the end. Could've accomplished the same thing with 5 minutes and made Santana/Executioner and Steamboat/Borne about ten minutes each.

1/2*

IC Title: Greg Valentine vs. Junk Yard Dog.
For something as historic as the first Wrestlemania IC ttle defence, this was lacking. Alot. The screwy finish in the middle only to get the match restarted to end in another screwy finish was a waste of time. They should've left it at the first finish.

1/2*

Tag Titles: US Express vs. Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff.
Pretty forumla tag match, unfortunatley too short. Also unfortunate was the lack of Iron Sheik sodomizing his opponents. Unless you're an exceptional talent, there's not much you can accomplish in five minutes.

*1/4

Women's Title: Lelani Kai vs. Wendi Richter.
Ok for a womens match, but just kinda there. Again time that could've gone Ricky Steamboat.

1/2*

Hogan and Mr. T w/ Jimmy Snuka vs. Roddy Piper and Paul Ordnorff w/ Cowboy Bob Orton.
Really fun, if overbooked match that borders on the rediculous. Thankfully the heel team are two talented guys aand carried the Wrestling portion of the match while Hogan delivered the Hoganness in spades. The finish was hotter than I expected for 1985, which is a plus. Not the best match you're likely to see but one of the funner ones. Mr. T. can safely say he's MOTNed Wrestlemania.

**1/2

This show was important in terms of historical significance, but honestly it hasn't aged very well at all. None of the matches where PPV quality and only two where good. You can argue that it's 1985 'till you're blue in the face but even back then they where capable of ***+ matches as Wrestlemania's II and (especially) III prove. It's not a show I'll find myself wanting to watch again.

Dude, I was being sarcastic. Although, "The Marine" did quite well on DVD as well as did the "You Can't See Me" album. Vince doesn't appear to be too interested in Cena's match quality or his ability to draw pay-per-view buys. It's all about what he can do for them outside of the regular audience.

Cena, for over about 18 months now, has been getting booed at every arena. He's held the WWE Championship for about 15 of those months. But he had a big movie out and regular WWE fans who were booing him didn't change the channel. It's a win-win. Give the company exposure in other outlets by prominently displaying the champion while also keeping the current fans. They probably don't think this could've happened with Michaels.

Michaels is older and "less hip" than Cena. Michaels' physique isn't very impressive... nor is his size. Michaels being mainstream is probably likened to bringing back Hogan and expecting him to make a movie and be champion and bring fans in. Again, this is probably what it would appear WWE thinks and not necessarily what I think.

Rey Mysterio, while highly successful in regards to sales of merchandise and PPV buys, is also not very marketable to the WWE. It's obvious they felt a need to justify his every match. While champion he was squashed by Khali and Mark Henry (in non-title matches). They both whipped his ass and pinned him fairly. He won a few matches by DQ or due to some interference and only beat Randy Orton fairly. WWE never seriously considered him championship material and never intended to give him the shot at WrestleMania when he won the Royal Rumble. So many people got behind him that they had no choice and they tried to hand the belt to JBL, of all people, just as soon as Rey won it.

I agree with you on everything you said. I just know that the WWE doesn't see it the same as you and I.

I'm not talking about ticket sales, ppv buys or people tuning in to USA or CW. I'm talking about all-around.

I got a haircut and my manager was telling me that I looked like John Cena. This other guy who doesn't know anything about wrestling (trust me I've asked and he doesn't know who Brock Lesnar, Triple H or Kurt "freakin" Angle are) overheard and said, "who's that? The guy from 'The Marine?' You do look like him."

My point is that Cena is popular outside of wrestling.

Unfortunately that is because I've just about stopped watching. Raw sucks ass. I think that for the first time in about three years I would rather watch SmackDown.. And I don't because SmackDown is just a single notch above Raw. If I have to see Cena face Khali or Umaga in some combination or form again I'm gonna hurl. If I have to see Orton kick someone else in the head, I'm gonna hurl. I would rather watch Edge defend his title against Batista for the 97th time than watch Cena win a title match.

Yes but more people who watched in '98 '99, would know Mysterio who was crazy over. Upon hearing he was the World champion, it would encourage them to have a look.

uhm...

R.I.P. Vince McMahon? huh huh

As retarded as this angle seems... I think they got me watching Raw again with this.

Although the Jackass guys may f*ck that up.

Such a horrid coincidence Sherri died on the same day they a mock ten bell salute on Smackdown. I'm not blaming WWE, they couldn't have seen it coming.

I'm pretty sure the news of her death leaked too late for the ten bell salute to be stopped. Or maybe even SD! aired before the Ambo's even got to her.

Actually, I'm wondering if the WWE had something against her. I mean all week we get the Vince is dead stuff blasted huge on WWE.com. We get a big pop-up of the car burning. We get a slideshow that includes a pic of the aforementioned ten bell salute, a pic of the limo on fire, a pic of FBI agent Beck and a pic of Vince. All week this stuff has been rotating. Sherri's death is mentioned on the bottom right next to "On This Weeks DivaDish." WTF? I understand that the angle is important but what's really the most important thing?

I understand that many people are fooled and think Vince actually died but does that mean that her death can't even be mentioned in the slideshow? Mike Awesome was. Bam Bam had about three or four pics on the slideshow. C'mon... it just sucks.

So I'm wondering if she had been on bad terms since getting inducted into the Hall of Fame.

All this McMahon crap is overshadowing the cool ass fact that Bret Hart was, in fact, once again on Raw, btw. I wonder how they'll commemorate him when he dies.

I honestly had no idea about the WWE.com part. That's horrid. Actually I rewatched Smackdown yesterday and they had Vicky attending the ten bell salute! That's so low. It makes me physically ill.

Bret Hart? Probably have Randy Orton proclaim to one his aspiring wrestler sons, "Bro, Bret is in hell!" cut to: Kane bashing his headstone with a sledgehammer and setting it on fire.

After all the roids Vince has been pumping and at 62 he'll buy the farm before Bret, who's clean and 49. So when Bret does pass, it will be in the hands of HHH and Stephanie, what their reign over the WWE will bring General Zod only knows. Is Hunter going to be "a peice of shit" (Brets words) or is he going to show class? We'll see one day. When that day comes I see half the roster fleeing the WWE like rats on a sinking ship.
