I too preferred Asylum to City. The City map was so boring because it was all slums, and I agree getting round was a chore. I preferred the more focussed linearity of Asylum.
Knight is actually fun to get around once you have upgraded your grapple/glide ability because it is really fast. The Batmobile you can take anywhere on street level, a few underground areas, and even jump it on a small selection of rooftops.
I personally found the gameplay more fun and varied than City. But your mileage will come down to how much you can put up with the very Un-Batman like tank sections. They are very over the top. Personally I didn't mind them too much, but they are really forced upon you to tout the inclusion of the Batmobile and many would argue there are simply far too many of them.
There is just far too much to do. It all goes a bit Far Cry 3&4 as there are so many enemy watchtowers/checkpoints etc to take out, some stealth, some fights, some Batmobile. While there are more gameplay styles than City, it gets very laborious having to do these things over and over again.
From a technical standpoint it is by far the best in the series (unless you're playing on PC obviously). But personally I think the focussed nature of Asylum had the best overall experience.
