Elseworlds Idea
« Thread started on: Aug 9th, 2005, 12:07am » |

Why is nobody posting here?
Anyway I have an idea for an Elseworld tale. Just the basic premise really.
The last remaining member of a dying race from the planet Krypton, a baby, is sent to the planet Earth as his homeworld explodes. The ship crash lands on the considerable property of one Dr. Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha. Unable to have their own children (and Thomas being a doctor) they claim the child as thier own. They begin to notice strange things about thier son. One night coming home from a movie a mugger jumps the family Thomas and Martha are killed, the mugger trys to shoot the child, but with no damage, in a fit of pure rage heat vision fires from the boys eyes incinerating the killer. And what happens next i haven't figured out yet. If anybody want to keep this thread going, feel free to elaborate on this. If not, screw it.

Unfortunately this has been done already, Fledermaus. It was a one shot TPB called "Superman: Speeding Bullets". It was a pretty good "what if" story and followed the same sort of lines as "Red Son".
It wasn't very detailed though and it would be good if someone elaborated on it a little more.
Anyway sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Is that bad news? Maybe it's good news. Now he can read his idea as a narrative.

Hey Fledermaus it seems your elseworlds collection needs a hand... nonetheless it was a good idea, and look it this way: Brilliant minds thinks alike...

Wow, either you're being highly sarcastic or you're highly deluded. That's okay, I really don't mind either mindset.
I'm of the perspective that pessimists are really optimists beaten down by daily reality. So in that sense, you might be right about me after all. And it all seems connected to delusion once again anyway -- isn't that the life of an idealist?

I thought you loved me?
Anyway getting back on topic, Fledermaus is lucky to have his idea already in print. I'd like to see an Elseworlds of Batman reviewing all the Bat-films. Including the 40's serials and Alyas Batman En Robin.

I do love you. But I loved Cpl. Hicks more. Just something about him..... his rugged good looks..... his uniform..... and his big gun.....

I'll be sure to pick that up. It seems like every time I have a good idea for a bat-story, damn DC has beat me to it.

I got Speeding Bullets today. I'm more than a bit freaked out how the whole origin played out exactly how i said. Even the heat vision. That's strange. I liked it, but I hate how sometimes elseworld books seem kinda "forced" to make these connections with the characters. But it was still pretty good.

I was just disappointed by how short it was. It really could have used a limited series of it's own so that the ideas could be expanded upon.
Get yourself a copy of "Red Son" if you haven't already done so, Fledermaus. It's similar to "Speeding Bullets" but it's a much more fleshed out story which sees Superman's ship crash landing in the USSR instead of Kansas!

I agree I would have liked a longer story. Is Red Son a one-shot or a mini?
