So... what are we currently reading?

Well, I'm glad that you asked!
I've been reading several comics:
- Solo #5 by Darwyn Cooke
The best catch of last week's bought issues (that is including the two Seven Soldier installments and Planetary!). I love Cooke. His work is amazing. This issue contains a Batman story (very nice), a story about how Cooke got started at drawing, a story about espionage in Cuba pre-Castro and a story about a murderous vacuumcleaner (I love that one).
- Seven Soldiers: Klarion #2
Nice one, but I'm not really 'into' it. Maybe if I read a bulk of the SS comics if I have some more.
- Seven Soldiers: Shining Knight #3
Very cool, I'm really loving the art and I can't wait until the next issue.
- Plantary #23
Nice, although I think Cassaday is a bit slow... You can see he doesn't always draw the backgrounds. This issue felt a bit empty story-wise as well because the rescueing of The Little Drummer Boy takes op a lot of pages, but there doesn't happen a lot (although, it's always nice to see someone's spine get kicked out by Jakita).
- Ultmate X-Men #61
Nice issue, but not really top-notch. It was very good, don't get me wrong.
- Supreme Power #17
Nice issue. Not the best of the series, though. I did love the scene with Power Princess.

I've been looking for the Watchmen and Wolverine: The Origin. I plan on reading Countdown to Infinite Crisis in the very near future and try to get back onto that storyline (I buy stuff, get lazy, shelf it, and then get re-pumped to read it)

I´m reading "Crows parliament" by Jack Curtis...is a thriller novel (well, you asked what we are reading without specifics)
and about comics...
- Conan 7 (I´m right behind schedule)
- Omac Project 1 (behind schedule, too)

Batman Begins: The Official Movie Adaptation.
Having seen (and loved) the movie already, it feels kind of odd that there's some very small bits missing. All in all not too bad but nothing epic.

I've been reading through Appleseed V1-4 and the Databook again. Very nice. I know you lot don't like manga that much, but give me a break  .
I'm also working through the Ghost in the Shell TPB again. Also very nice. A lot more elaborate than the movie, but the movie's art is better, more mature than the Japanese 'funny' moments inside the TPB...
Still very nice. I'm about half way now.
Thursday I'll get my next fix on comics.

I like manga. I'm a big fan of Akira Toriyama's work and Dr. Slump is great so far.

I've seen mixed reactions between the movie and Stand Alone Complex. Which do you prefer? I'm siding with the movie, though I wasn't a big fan of it.

I've gotten really sick of all the crud go'n down in Bat-book continuity as of late eg. lame crossover stories like "War Games" that are just a cheap attempt at making a story "epic" plus Bat writers and editors turning Batman into a bit of an a-hole, preferring to elevate all the kids around him like Robin, Batgirl, Huntress etc. Combined with all the other bad stuff I'm hearing about current/near future continuity stories eg. "City of Crime", "Infinite Crisis", "One Year Later".
Thus I'm sorta take'n a break from current continuity opting instead to explore back issues of "Legends Of The Dark Knight", stories in which Batman was a likable character and wasn't surrounded by a bunch'a pesky kids. Plus because it's a book without a central continuity I don't have to worry about being bogged down by lingering, soapy subplots.
I'm also reading Englehart & Roger's "Dark Detective" miniseries, pretty solid so far.
I also read a few recent issues of Gail Simone's "Birds of Prey" partly out of boredom, partly because I enjoyed Simone's work on "DeadPool", partly because Bene's artwork is Cheesecake-erific, and partly because I'd heard some good things about the monthly. But I wasn't really convinced in the end, just not my cup of tea I guess, I'm not really digg'n it's kitschy, girl power-esque, ball busting vibe, in fact that was something of particular mention in this book, and all BoP stories, the amount of ball busting both figuratively and even literally, like in issue# 80 when Canary busted a cop's balls on a stair-well rail, I have'nt read an issue since out of fear they may castrate someone next. Bene's ladies are pleasingly bootylicious though

Hmmm, when comparing Ghost in the Shell (the movie) with GitS: Stand Alone Complex (the tv series), I can't really find common factors except that it involves the same characters.
Where the movie is mainly about Major Kusanagi and how it deals with the issue of having a spirit even in a robot body.
With Stand Alone Complex I had no such thing. This was about Section 9 and it's members. It wasn't one enemy they fought but it felt more like a serie about cybercops and their daily work. I liked that a lot, I liked that it differed from the movie. I also loved it that Stand Alone Complex had episodes you could just watch on itself, but it also had some 2 or 3 parters and it also has an red wire going through the entire series (i.e., the threat of the Laughing Man). I also loved the detective feel some of these episodes had. And the introsong is awesome. I really disliked the Fuchikoma's (the spidertanks) and their Japanese schoolgirl voices, though.
All in all, I love both of them, but I like Stand Alone Complex better. Although I don't know if I would've liked it as much should I have not seen then movie to begin with.
Are people not looking forward to Infinite Crisis? I do hear people complain about War Games, but with Infinite Crisis and the One Year later stuff, I don't believe people are complaining about those or I have just not heard it.
And I saw a review of Dark Detective on Newsarama (right here) and it says that it completely sucks. I guess that's a fine example of personal likes and dislikes .

They were probably refering to issue# 4, which even I will admit was pretty dissapointing, most of it was all about Bruce reliving a childhood experience in which, apparently, a friend of Joe Chill's came after Bruce and tried to kill him and Bruce had to fight him off, it was weird and unecessary,
But issues# 1, 2 & 3 were pretty solid

Today, I received a package and in it were the Seaguy TPB, Countdown to Infinite Crisis #1 (which I cannot read because I'm still really behind) and the first Ex Machina TPB. After I finish the Ghost in the Shell TPB, I'll start reading these!!

We're currently reading:
Astonishing X-Men #11
Wow, this was really a great issue, after all the (overrated) stuff from Whedon (I think he's a good writer, but he's not the Messiah everyone thinks he is) and Cassaday. I loved the cliffhanger with the supersentinel.
Rising Stars: Voices of the Dead #2
This mini-serie will be good, I think. It's nothing really amazing right now, but I have the feeling this story will turn out to be very nice.
The Authority: Revolution #10
Nice one! I've bought a lot of good comics today! I still hate Nguyen's art, but the story is getting so good that I do not mind one bit (well, maybe one or two bits). I like how the opposing sides all seem to have the upper hand or an ace up their sleave and the the other side still manages to surprise the other. Bendix is the true bastard and I'm hoping for a great climax within 2 issues.
House of M #4
I'm beginning to like this story as well. The covers aren't exactly my style, but ther inside art is a lot better. The story, although about another alternate universe and blablabla, is shaping up to be quite good. I'm looking forward for the rest.
Spider-Man: House of M #2
Well yeah, everyone was able to predict that ending, but still I like this alternate world. I like Salvador Larroca's art and Mark Waid and Tom Peyer's story. I'm just curious how they're going to fill the coming 3 issues.
Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #16
Another fine issue. I'm liking this writer, Reginald Hudlin. He seems to have a lighter style of writing, not really superserious stuff (although I like the serious stuff best, change is welcome as well). I really like how the Superman rip-off 'Virtue' has been played. His origin is cool.

JLA Classified #10
Loved it. Warren Ellis delivers and I love Butch Guice's art. I know this'll be great and even though I didn't want to read it (because I'm still far too far behind), I couldn't resist...
