The weekend Suicide Squad came out, I had a bit of a binge. Friday was SS at the cinema. Saturday was Piece Of Shit, and Sunday was Batman V Superman 3 Hour Director's Cut. Going to keep this brief to try to avoid too much repetition on points covered to death, this is more of an update.

I still think PoS sucks. It is just a really bad film all round. An utterly redundant earth based origin and general bad writing and bad CG fight scenes all amount to it being a chore to watch. I like that a lot of the (valid in this case) criticisms were addressed in BvS, so the film is not quite as bad in context. But this is a film I'll never like, will largely ignore, but will dread if I ever decide to do another binge in future when more films in the series are available.

Utterly loved the Director's Cut of BvS. Most of my original criticisms stand, but the overall experience is far superior the Theatrical Cut. I really enjoyed the sombre tone, I thought it captured the feel of comics better than any DC film in many years. The writing, while I still have huge problems with certain parts, overall had a good balance of exposition/letting you think for yourself to understand the mythological themes and general plot. Any character speeches felt organic as opposed to self-indulgent soliloquies utilised to verbalise the themes rather than simply show them.

Looking forward to the SS Blu-Ray to give that another watch now.

Reviews of the onscreen DCU are scathing, but BvS and SS both seem to have done well at the cinema despite this. I hope Warner don't interfere with the creative process too much in forthcoming films. The next Batman film should be dark, BvS dark or darker because that suits the character. I fear they'll be lightening up everything because all the reviews seem to amount to 'Marvel is better because it is funny.' rolleyes Anyway, I would like the next Superman film to be light. Superman in a dark story works very well, but I'd prefer some his solo films to be a lot more upbeat. I want my solo Batman to be dark as possible, but he can work in more upbeat settings. I just hope they keep a good balance and don't screw this up. Their universe is young and has so much promise. There is room for dark films with dark humour, like BvS, and there is room for lighter funnier films. I would prefer them not to go down the Marvel route where all the films look and feel the same with the exact same tone. Sure it makes them feel like a more cohesive universe, but I'd prefer some variety in the DCU.

I'm currently two out of three enjoyed, and they're the two with the terrible reviews.

I like Gordon's comment on working with others "again." Maybe we'll get a Nightwing cameo to lead into his solo movie.

So, Wonder Woman, do we bother with a new thread or just keep it here where the rest of the series seems to live?

As I said in the Supergirl thread, I've definitely gone soft.

The CG was fucking horrible, I swear CG in films has been getting even worse recently.

Despite that, I fairly enjoyed it. I'd say it was hugely better than Piece Of Shit, I like it more than Suicide Squad, and less than Batman Vs Superman.

I think it helps that I've read little of Wonder Woman. When I'm an expert on something I'm far more critical when there are problems with characters etc. Things like Batman and Star Wars I will always be hyper aware of their flaws. My lack of knowledge with Wonder Woman meant I just took the film as it presented it. I found the first 1/3 a bit of a drag, loved the second 1/3, found the final act expectedly weaker but serviceable.

Gal Gadot can't act, but is perfect for the physicality of the role. I don't think her lack of acting ability was any sort of detriment to be honest because the script didn't demand too much from her.

My only issue with WW was...I expect a WWI era soldier to be a bit more gentlemanly and proper. Maybe that's stereotyping, I don't know. He seemed way to modern and rogueish.
